Sunset Kino: John Heartfield. Fotomonteur

John Heartfield. Fotomonteur
Programmed by Hans Winkler.
“Fotomonteur” is part of a trilogy on the history of 20th-century art and emerged from a year-long study of the most rebellious expressions of German artists. As a co-founder of DADA Berlin, John Heartfield’s posters and book covers reached a large audience in the 1920s and 1930s. The power of political photomontage, based on its mass distribution, became a feared political weapon. The film offers an art-historical view that focuses on the rare moments in German history when aesthetic and political radicalism went hand in hand for a short distance.
