OPEN CALL — Der Bogen

OPEN CALL — Der Bogen

A Permanent Sculpture Project in Public Space
Glanbogen Housing Complex × Salzburger Kunstverein
General-Keyes-Street, Salzburg

The Salzburger Kunstverein invites its artist members to submit proposals for permanent sculptural projects in the public space of the Glanbogen housing complex on General-Keyes-Street in Salzburg.

Der Bogen is not a monument, but a curved street and residential complex—an everyday passageway, a living environment, a place of transit, pause, and return. Along this curved street space, site-specific sculptures are to be realized. These works should inscribe themselves into the daily lives of the residents and become a lasting part of the site’s social and spatial fabric.

Visitors and residents alike should, upon arriving at Glanbogen from any direction, be made aware of the particular character of this place through artistically designed landmarks. The artworks at the entrance to Glanbogen should generate joy and encourage a positive sense of coexistence. The sculptural projects should express the symbiosis between private living space, public space, and the surrounding natural environment.

Further information about Glanbogen can be found here

More details on the history of Glanbogen and the locations of the designated artworks can be found in the fact sheet:

PLAN FOR DOWNLOAD

Submitted projects must comply with the usual safety regulations for sculptures in public spaces. Any restrictions or disturbances for residents regarding light, noise, or views must also be taken into account. A detailed plan and any necessary adjustments to the proposal will only be required if the project is selected.

We are seeking artistic works that:

* think sculpturally (in an expanded sense: object, installation, site-specific intervention),
* are conceived for outdoor space and long-term presence,
* respond sensitively to architecture, neighborhood, and patterns of use,
* consider durability, maintenance, and safety,
* do not occupy public space but work with it,
* invite lingering, wonder, reflection, and understanding.

The project is conceived as a process: the works will emerge in dialogue with the site. The aim is to develop a sculptural space within everyday life—accessible, open, and polyphonic.

Eligibility: The open call is addressed to artists who are members of the Salzburger Kunstverein.

Location: Glanbogen Housing Complex, General-Keyes-Street, Salzburg

Type of Works: Permanent, site-specific sculptures in outdoor space

Production Conditions: The art project is supported with a total budget of €90,000 brutto (including artist fee).

Applicants should submit, in one combined PDF (in English):

* Portfolio (max. 10 pages)
